 The Annual budfunding sustainability award

ABOUT THE AWARD      

 The Budfunding award is to be given annually up to a maximum of $1,000. Eligible candidates must be enrolled, part time or full time, in the Masters of Sustainable Energy Development program at the University of Calgary. The award is to be used towards an event or community-based project in Alberta. Students who wish to apply will prepare a 1-page description, including a project budget.  They will then present their ideas in a 5-minute pitch in April to compete for the award. Students can enter as an individual or as a group. The winner of the award will share the outcomes of their project at a following Budfunding Sustainability Expo.   

AWARD CRITERIA

 Judges will use the following criteria to determine the award recipient:  

·             Tangible impact on the Calgary and/or area community;  ·             Creativity; ·             Realistic and achievable goal;  ·             Relationship with one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); ·             Presentation style; ·             A good and efficient use of the money.

Some examples of acceptable projects could be (but not limited to) the following:  

·            Install a community garden;  ·            Find and implement a sustainable solution for an abandoned lot or area; ·            Partner with a building/company to create a plant based growing wall;  ·            Install beehives for native bees and plant flowers specific to these bees; or ·            Run a sustainable fashion show.
